Owner of a strong identity, with a striking and spontaneous style. This is Bruno Carneiro Mosciaro, better known as Bruno Big, a native of Rio de Janeiro, born in 1980, who stands out as a multidisciplinary artist. Passionate about art and the feelings it evokes, after years of research he managed to develop his own language and style, and thanks to that, earned recognition both in Brazil and abroad.

His presence in the streets is striking. He enjoys the challenge and the feedback the street offers. The search for a space to paint, adapting to different surfaces, and the interaction with people passing by as he creates, generates an energy that is essential for Big as an artist.

Vulica Brazil

“Take good care of your garden”

My artwork for Vulica Brasil!
I was really happy with the result — I think it’s the most beautiful piece I’ve ever made!
It was an honor to take part in this event, which has such a unique energy!

Thank you Mila and Danilo Costa for the opportunity, the care, and the friendship.

It was amazing to bring my art and paint this mural, and even more special to do it alongside such engaged people. The organizers and volunteers were truly dedicated and always ready to work and make this event happen — thank you for sharing your culture with me! It was great to see some old friends again, and even better to make new ones!

Thank you! A special thanks to my team!

About the mural: when I was invited, I wanted to create something very colorful and meaningful. After a few sketches, I arrived at the idea of a woman taking care of her garden. That led me to a poem by Mario Quintana, which says:

"The secret is not to chase butterflies, but to take care of the garden so that they come to you."

This is a metaphor about taking care of yourself and becoming the kind of person worth loving — when you do that, good things will come naturally. Take good care of yourself and of those around you, and good things will follow.

Rock in Rio

Rock in Rio is part of Rio’s history — the biggest festival in Brazil! I’ve watched great shows there since my teenage years, and being part of the 2022 edition was amazing!

“Memory” Exhibition

The exhibition “Memory,” by artists Thereza Miranda and Bruno Big, was held at the Arthur Fidalgo Gallery featuring prints using various techniques based on photographs, known as photogravures.

This exhibition celebrates Brazilian printmaking, showcasing works by two artists from different generations who both practice and teach engraving and printing techniques, keeping the printmaking tradition alive in Rio de Janeiro. Their works are filled with memories — of places, people, the mountains of Rio, its architecture, and nature — memories that have been etched and are now vividly captured on paper.

Street River

Street River is a very special project that takes place in the Amazon, bringing urban art to the riverside community of Ilha do Combú, located on the Guamá River opposite Belém do Pará.

Created by Sebá Tapájos, the Street River Institute goes beyond the initiative of bringing art to Ilha do Combú; its main goal is to raise awareness about the conditions of the riverside people who mainly live off what they extract from the river and the forest. Through partnerships with companies and NGOs, the project has been able to make improvements to the area, such as installing ecological bathrooms, distributing water filters to make the water potable, and even setting up solar panels to generate electricity for the local school, since lack of power is a constant issue there.

Bruno Big was invited to join the team of artists who participated in the event in June 2018. Among them were artists from various parts of Brazil and one from Germany. He had the pleasure of painting the home of a family where Bob and Sara live, parents of four sons. Artur, the youngest, was the artist’s main assistant. The father builds boats and requested a hammerhead shark to be painted on the side of the house where he works. On the other side, the mural symbolizes the family and the upbringing of the children.

The experience and immersion in the local culture make Street River a unique art event, where artists and the local community exchange and interact very closely. The learning is immense and ends up influencing the artists in their creations and lives.

Arte-Core

Arte-Core is an iconic event in Rio de Janeiro’s cultural scene, held in the gardens of the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro. Completely free and open to all ages, it brings together a large audience passionate about culture and creativity. With urban art as its guiding theme, the festival offers music, skateboarding, interactive workshops, and, of course, lots of art in a vibrant and inspiring environment.

Arte Core

Big was invited to paint the 8m x 6m mural that remained on display until the following edition — Arte Core 2019.

MEMENTO MORI

Below is the text written by the artist about his work:

A tribute to the old masters of painting and their wisdom.

The compositions known as Vanitas can be seen in creations by various artists across different times and places in art history.

Based on classical still life paintings, these compositions bring symbols and elements that represent vanity, ego, and the fleeting nature of life.

An invitation for the observer’s self-reflection on their ego, character, and how their attitudes resonate in their life and after passing on to the next plane, since we take nothing material with us beyond.

What do you want to be remembered for?
