Bruno BIG - BIO

Bruno Carneiro Mosciaro, widely known as Bruno Big, is a multidisciplinary artist born in Rio de Janeiro in 1980. With a striking visual identity defined by bold lines, expressive gestures, and vibrant colors, his work flows with a sense of spontaneity and emotional depth that makes it instantly recognizable.

Artistic Journey and Style

Bruno's journey through art began early and evolved organically. Over the years, he has explored a wide range of techniques and mediums—from graffiti and large-scale murals to paintings on canvas, digital illustration, printmaking, and set design. His ability to move fluidly between the street and the studio, between the figurative and the abstract, has earned him a solid place in Brazil's contemporary art scene—and far beyond.

Driven by instinct and a love for the unexpected, Bruno developed his own unique visual language through years of experimentation and research. His murals and artworks have appeared across the globe—in cities like Paris, Tokyo, Miami, New York, Amsterdam, São Paulo, and Beijing—transforming walls and public spaces into powerful visual experiences. A firm believer in the power of art to connect with people, he often creates in open urban environments, embracing the energy and rhythm of the street.

Academic Involvement and Traditional Techniques

Equally passionate about education and the legacy of traditional techniques, Bruno has been deeply involved in academic life. He holds a degree in Visual Communication from PUC-Rio and is a specialist in Brazilian art history and engraving. For over a decade, he taught printmaking at his alma mater alongside his mentor and collaborator, the renowned artist Thereza Miranda. Together, they've guided new generations of artists through classical techniques like woodcut, metal engraving, and lithography.

In 2018, Bruno and Thereza co-hosted the exhibition Memória, celebrating traditional Brazilian engraving with a series of prints and a commemorative photogravure honoring Thereza's 90th birthday. That same dedication to both tradition and transformation continues to fuel Big's work to this day.

Collaborations with Major Brands

His visual presence and personal style have also caught the attention of major international brands. Bruno has collaborated with notable brands such as Nike, Coca-Cola, Red Bull, Uber, Heineken, Starbucks, and Gillette, consistently bringing authenticity and artistic integrity to their commercial projects.

One of his most emblematic works was designing cultural icons for the official jersey of the Brazilian national football team for the 2014 World Cup. One of his most iconic partnerships was with Nike and football star Neymar Jr., who invited him to design a special edition of the "Hypervenom Phantom II" boots under the theme "Ousadia & Alegria" ("Audacity & Joy")—two words Neymar has tattooed on his arms and lives by. For the boots, Bruno created two striking illustrations: a hand symbolizing "Ousadia" (Audacity) and a heart symbolizing "Alegria" (Joy). Bruno didn't stop there—he also painted a large mural with the same imagery at Neymar's social institute, turning the collaboration into a multidimensional artistic statement.

New Artistic Phase and Recent Projects

After the pandemic, Bruno entered a new and powerful phase in his career—one marked by a shift toward abstraction. Letting go of sketches and plans, he began painting instinctively, allowing shapes, gestures, and colors to emerge organically on the canvas. This intuitive and improvisational approach reflects a constant search for balance, flow, and meaning in the creative process itself.

Bruno Big has built a strong and ongoing connection with the world of sports. In 2022, he was invited to design the trophy for the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Interlagos in São Paulo, as part of Heineken’s partnership with Formula 1. In 2023, the Brazilian Olympic Committee invited him to develop original artworks for the athletes’ space at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile—creating a unique environment for the delegation and athletes.

He was also invited by the Brazilian Olympic Committee and Meta to paint a mural at Casa Brasil during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. For this special commission, Bruno chose to depict breakdancing—a sport making its Olympic debut in Paris.

2024 was a particularly intense and productive year: he also held his first solo exhibition in New York, inside the Citibank Financial Center, as part of Brazil Week.

Legacy and Impact

From public murals like the one atop Rio's Sugarloaf cable car station to intimate paintings crafted in the studio, Bruno Big's work is about movement—visual, emotional, and social. His art pulses with life, inviting viewers to connect, reflect, and experience a profound sense of emotion. It's this mix of curiosity, courage, and creativity that defines him, not just as an artist, but as a force of expression in contemporary Brazilian culture.
